Although the book is a little dated, I have yet to find such a refreshing and concise introduction to visual literacy.

The illustrations compliment the text well, and the writing is plain and easy to understand. Highly recommended. I highly recommend this book to anybody interested in visual communications. The book may be dated, but the concepts and explanations still hold relevance today. Visual literacy concerns our daily lives. Is essential to learn how to see in order to communicate effectively. Feb 10, Mildred rated it really liked it. Whilst it is a tough and deeply academic read, I enjoyed this book for its detailed deconstruction of the visual form - essentially, how we see. She breaks down visual matter into its component parts - the dot, line, shape, colour, dimension, movement, and other elements.

She also speaks about how we see certain objects as harmonious and pleasing, and others as harsh and with tension.

A good read for anyone who is intensely curious about how we see. Jan 07, Di Patri rated it really liked it.
